Tyler Agyekum

Research in Medicine (RIM) Student

Hi, I’m Tyler! I’m a medical student at Dalhousie. Before med school, I did a Master’s in Computational Neuroscience and an undergrad degree in Psychology. My Master’s research looked at how cardiovascular risk factors and lifestyle factors were associated with the hippocampus in older adults, and how those changes relate to cognition. I was especially interested in how computational tools and neuroimaging could help us better understand cognitive decline and identify lifestyle factors that might help prevent it.

My current interests build on that work, and I’m really interested in the relationship between the vascular system and the brain, especially how we can use tools like machine learning to better understand, prevent, and treat vascular neurological conditions that impact cognition. I’m also passionate about using these approaches to support communities that are at higher risk for these conditions.

Outside of medicine and research, I’m a big soccer (football) fan and love both playing and watching. I also enjoy reading and writing stories, and watching movies.
